Rural Roots is a high-impact social project in rural India that aims to provide skills and generate sustainable employment for at least 500 women currently living in extreme poverty within three to five years. It currently operates in the Deoria district of Eastern Uttar Pradesh, where the majority of the population is below the poverty line. Rural Roots is active in the food-processing sector and currently produces food products that are unique to the remote regions of Eastern Uttar Pradesh. Over the last year, Rural Roots has trained more than 50 women and currently employs 15-20 women.

Kunal Bhatia is the CEO of Rural Roots and leads the project on the ground. He is a graduate in Food Technology and Management and has experience in the food-processing sector. He is an entrepreneur at heart and strives to combine sustainable business strategies to create social impact in an area he is passionate about (food). This aligns well with his work at Rural Roots wherein he works to improve the product offerings and operational efficiency and also drives sales.
